History-
In 762, Abu Jafar al' Mansur sent a team of scouts to find an ideal place for the new capital of the Abbasid Empire. They found the perfect spot to found what is now called Baghdad. The leader of the Abbasid Empire hired the best artist around the world to design the city. The city was named Dar al Salam "city of peace" The people of Dar al Salam called the city Baghdad which soon became the unofficial name for Dar la Salam.

In 1258 a Mongol army invaded the city killing hundreds of thousands of people. The Mongols also burned down all the magnificent buildings,libraries, and threw all the book into the Tigris River. The books that the Mongols threw into the river contained nearly all of the world's knowledge.
Baghdad had survived but, Baghdad was no sparkling metropolis. In 1932 Iraq was founded and Baghdad being the largest city, became the capital of Iraq.
